Yesterday three work colleagues asked me to explain to them web 2.0 one day. Often when they pass me information which they think might interest me I tell them that this 2.0 but they have to change the way they do it, using different tools and not sharing the information with just one person, but with many.
Anyway, I was pleasently surprised and so I’ve decided to do a session to explain, in the most non-geek manner possible, web 2.0
Here’s a cool video by Lee and Sachi LeFever about social media from the Common Craft Show
My enrollment in the June 3rd course whit Jordi Gralles has been confirmed and he has sent the participants “homework” to prepare us, which I think is a great idea.
During this week I’ve found this links which seem interesting (in Spanish)
Roaxanne Darling wrote on her Bare Feet Studios blog today about the difficulties Coca-Cola is having in understanding how to use social media. They have spent large sums of money but it’s not a question of economic investment but a change of mentality, of accepting a new reality far removed from conventional advertising.
Roxanne concludes: Just remember, you can’t buy authenticity. You earn it, one transparent conversation at a time. That’s nothing to worry about, just something to start practicing. Maybe even in a staff meeting today!”
I agree completely with her – if we want to use any web 2.0 tool we have to change our way of thinking. The 1.0 formats are obsolete, static and no lnger useful. From now on we have to demonstrate that we are open and generous, rapid and mutually trusting and interrelate bypassing protocols and heirachies to reach the right to information that we all have.
Yesterday I saw on the Catalan TV news (TV3) that the Autonomous Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) has opensed a video canal on YouTube. Although there is very little content at the moment, this move represents a great change in the thinking of the Administration and is to be welcomed.
This video explains the Generalitat’s view of web 2.0
Along with two colleagues, I was called to a meeting with the future director of the Agency to ask us about what we do and how we are in our current jobs. He’s open to new ideas and I took the opportunity to explain my project – he seems very receptive. Let’s see…
Although the date is still to be confirmed, most probably June 3rd, I will be having a meeting with the project director of the Department of the Environment & Housing and Neoris.
I’m very pleased and motivated and I am still receiving ideas and advice via seesmic like this (in Spanish)
Went to a workshop on the future use of Web 2.0 in the Dept of the Environment & Housing (DMAH) organised by the Department and a private company called Neoris. It was short but interesting and the speaker, Joan Mayans, made a great effort to cram as much information as possible into 2 hours.
The DMAH has contracted Neoris to do a feasability study on the introduction of Web 2.0 tools, and no-one should underestimate the difficulty of implementing change in the Public Administration.
After the session I went to congratulate Joan Mayans on his presentation and to comment to the representatives of Neoris that I am very interested in incorporating Web 2.0 tools in the soon to be created Catalan Housing Agency or if not, where I work at the moment in the Territorial Services of the Housing Department in Lleida. They kindly introduced me to the head of the project within the DMAH.
Mr. Mayans mentioned Jordi Graells, a Web 2.0 enthusiast in the Justice Department, a few times. I contacted him the next day to ask for advice on how to present my project in the best way possible. He answered me quickly and suggested that I attend a workshop on using the Internet for innovation in Public Administration which will take place in Barcelona on June 3rd. My boss has supported me in all of this.
I have recorded videos in Seesmic in both English and Spanish asking for advice and have had answers such as this one.
